XX – I see you (review)

Full disclosure :I’m a big XX fan. This review is far from objective

It’s long awaited and according to the bands instagram it’s a celebration of their friendship, life live and the highs and lows over the last 4 years since their second album Angels.

I started writing this the morning it came out,  since then- during an uncharacteristically difficult week- I’ve had it on repeat in my ears and my head. There are songs to cheer you up, ones that make me cry and not an ‘album filler’ in sight.

From Dangerous with a strong beat,  a little faster than we might be used to from the previously famously shy band. It’s frantic and giddy and makes your toes tap without you meaning to. Lips made me feel nostalgic the first time I heard it.  All the way to slower and dramatic songs like Brave for YouMy personal favourite is Performance. I’ve never had that hair on the back of your neck cliché moment with another song. This felt so raw and naked that I had a lump in my throat the first time I heard it.

The album is the right mix of Jamie’s solo success and the originality of the bands first (and arguably best known)  album. It feels intimate without being touchy freely and I love it. It’s going to stick around and the success will long continue.

I’m going to be heading to the Copenhagen gig in February and I can’t wait.
